Headlights are fairly simple to spot. Looking at the image, we can see on the right hand side that the orange edge has a green corner on either side of it. That is a set of headlights. The left hand side has two different colours on either side, so that is not a set of headlights. It is very important to note that a full bar (a blue edge has a blue corner on either side of it, so all three pieces are blue) is also seen as a set of headlights. This is only seen in one case of the 21 though, so you won't see it often. If you have a set of headlights on each side, ignore this part and read the section titled “The U Permutation”.

Assembling the Rubik’s Cube is a wonderful way to exercise your fine motor skills. And improve the spatial and visual perception and cognitive thinking in children. Once you have the cube put together, it will challenge the children to use their visual and spatial perception skills. Your goal is to have all four edges matching their centres. If you have this, then the cross is solved. If you have only two, then you could have one of two cases. Either the two matching edges are adjacent (next to each other) or opposite each other. Finally, we add a camera arm.  In the original design by MindCubr, this held the EV3 color sensor over the Rubik’s cube.  In our modified design, it holds a Raspberry Pi Camera over the Rubik’s cube.  We use two LEGO Mindstorms motors to manipulate the cube: the first sits below the cradle to rotate the cube, and the second moves the shuffler arm to spin the cube on an opposite axis.

The Rubik’s Build It, Solve It kit is for one player.  Although ages 8 and up are recommended, I believe younger children will enjoy playing with the assembled toy.  As we said before, it is great for children and adults that don’t mind trying to figure out how the cube works – it’s great for those that enjoy putting puzzles together. The kit gives an inside look on how the cube works and how it is put together. Plus, you will receive some tips in the instruction manual on how to solve it.
Constructing the Cube is a superb way to exercise those fine motor skills, visual and spatial comprehension and cognitive thinking from children. When the block is placed together, it is going to challenge the small ones to use their spatial and visual understanding as they know to spin the tiles. The block also helps kids learn about colours and fitting them.
When it comes to building the Rubik’s Cube, it’s not as hard as it looks. In all actuality, it will take about fifteen minutes and the instructions are easy to follow. When it comes to placing the colored tiles, make sure you pay attention to where you’re supposed to place them, because if you snap them in the wrong place, you won’t be able to remove them. Yes, you will still be able to use the Rubik’s Cube, but you won’t be able to follow along with the instruction guide on solving the puzzle.

1 When production is initiated, the plastic pellets are transformed into Rubik's cube parts through injection molding. In this process, the pellets are put into the hopper of an injection molding machine. They are melted when they are passed through a hydraulically controlled screw. As the screw turns, the melted plastic is shuttled through a nozzle and physically forced, or injected, into the mold. Just prior to the arrival of the molten plastic, the two halves of the mold are brought together to create a cavity that has the identical shape of the Rubik's cube part. This could be an edge, a corner, or the center piece. Inside the mold, the plastic is held under pressure for a specific amount of time and then allowed to cool. While cooling, the plastic hardens inside the mold. After enough time passes, the mold halves are opened and the cube pieces are ejected. The mold then closes again and the process begins again. Each time the machine moulds a set of parts is one cycle of the machine. The Rubik's cube cycle time is around 20 seconds.

Now you need to orient these pieces. Refer to the next picture. As you can see, the orange piece matches the orange centre. Look at the edges on your puzzle. You could have none matching, two matching or all matching. If you have all four edges matching the centres, your cross is solved. If you have none matching, perform a U move, then look around the cube again. You want to have at least two matching. If none of them match, do another U move. Repeat until you have either two or four edges matching their centres.

Repeat the process. Turn back to your blue side and repeat the turns on opposite sides. Then, return once more to the red side and turn the opposite sides in opposite directions. And last, return once more to the blue side and turn the opposite sides in opposite directions. Keeping white on top, turn the cube so that a different colour face is toward you. Follow the above instructions again. Repeat with the other two faces until the white cross is complete. This step is quite intuitive; you can do it for sure but it does take a little practice. It is important that you have patience when it comes to building the Rubik’s Build It Solve It cube. However, once you get the hang of this you are going to feel pretty smart. Here, we're looking at the colours that aren't solved. There are 21 different cases for the top layer, but we only need a couple of algorithms to solve them all. The first thing we want to find is headlights. Only 2 of the cases don't have any headlights (one of them is if you skip this step, and the cube is already solved). For the one case without headlights, just perform the algorithm below from any angle. This is a better case because when you do the next step, the cube will be solved already.
Erno Rubik, an architect and professor at the University of Budapest developed the first working prototype of the Rubik's cube in 1974. He received a Hungarian patent in 1975. Apparently, it was also independently designed by Terutoshi Ishige, an engineer from Japan, who received a Japanese patent in 1976. Professor Rubik created the cube as a teaching aid for his students to help them recognize three-dimensional spatial relationships. When he showed the working prototype to his students, it was an immediate hit.

There are 5 different positions your cube can be in now, one of which could be solved. The rest of them have all four corners solved, so do the required amount of U moves so that every corner is in its right place. 2 of the 4 remaining possibilities have a solved bar (as mentioned above, where all three colours on that side are the same), and the other 2 have no solved bars.


Since the center pieces cannot be moved relatively to each other it's important to solve the edge pieces correctly in relation to each other. For example, when solving the white in our case- the green center piece is to the left of the red center piece, therefore the green-white edge piece should to be solved to the left of the red-white edge piece (see image).

Rubik's cube is a toy puzzle designed by Erno Rubik during the mid-1970s. It is a cube-shaped device made up of smaller cube pieces with six faces having differing colors. The primary method of manufacture involves injection molding of the various component pieces, then subsequent assembly, labeling, and packaging. The cube was extremely popular during the 1980s, and at its peak between 1980 and 1983, 200 million cubes were sold world wide. Today sales continue to be over 500,000 cubes sold world wide each year.


Just because this kit gives you a behind-the-scenes look as to how a Rubik's Cube is made along with tips for how to solve it doesn't mean that you'll be solving it like a pro within seconds. Even the solution booklet itself says that the first step will take practice and trial by error. So this is definitely going to be more fun for kids or adults who enjoy the puzzlement of a Rubik's Cube and have the patience to build it and practice using the solving tips. But once you finally do solve it, you'll be pretty proud of yourself, and your friends and family will be impressed. Rubix Builders
